Most companies want to increase their ability to adapt, make decisions and move quickly in an ever-changing business environment. Mission statements, vision statements, and strategic objectives are littered with words like “agile”, “flexible” and “responsive”, but in our experience few companies want to embrace the discipline that it takes to earn real agility. In its place, “false agility” in the form of unvetted hallway decisions, firefighting, dragon slaying, and just plain old brute force prevail. “We get it done, no matter what!” is what we often hear. To us, this translates to “Customer service at ANY cost!” Companies can go out of business with that kind of agility.
Companies are made up of people and people typically want to do the right thing and be the hero. Sometimes, when we recommend implementing a formal master scheduling process, there is resistance to the discipline and formality. Often, there is a misperception that discipline will slow down decisions and add bureaucracy. “My planning spreadsheet works just fine, thank you very much! I don’t use [insert ERP system here] except to execute my orders…it doesn’t work for what we do. We’re different.”
During this webinar, we will describe how a formal master scheduling process can be applied in any environment, from make-to-stock through engineer-to-order. Furthermore, we will show how a disciplined approach actually increases real agility and effective decision-making.
