Mike Elgin, who has 30 years of experience in petroleum refining, marketing, and trading, has joined Oliver Wight Americas as an educator, business coach, and mentor.
Oliver Wight Americas, the global management consulting firm that pioneered Integrated Business Planning (Advanced Sales and Operations Planning) and Integrated Supply Chain Planning, is pleased to announce that Mike Elgin has joined the firm. Mike, who has 30 years of experience in petroleum refining, marketing, and trading, has extensive hands-on involvement with using the Product, Demand, and Supply Review processes to improve transparency, planning, and decision making. In his most recent role at BP, he used the principles of Integrated Business Planning to make a significant impact on BP’s Refining and Marketing growth and profitability.
While with BP, Mike spearheaded the design and implementation of a systematic Integrated Business Planning process using the Oliver Wight model. This process drove integration across multiple refineries, pipelines and logistics, and multiple market footprints. Using the Demand Review process, he coached the team that developed a plan to grow gasoline sales to fully leverage the new capability offered by a planned refinery expansion. He also developed a new team within BP Pipelines to better coordinate business development and commercial oversight of assets across the continental U.S. and deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
“Mike’s experience in creating strong teams and alliances to achieve business goals, as well as his history of coaching executive leadership at BP’s global Fuels Value Chains to assist in the implementation of the IBP at sites around the world, will make him a powerful resource for Oliver Wight and its clients,” said Chairman Dennis Groves.
Mike held numerous roles during his tenure with BP including Vice President of Business Development and Commercial for the U.S. Pipelines Business, Head of Refining Supply, Head of Integrated Planning & Optimization and, most recently, Global Head of Supply Chain Management. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors for Olympic Pipeline Company and BP-Husky Refining, LLC. Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
