Frequently Asked Questions
Oliver Wight consultants coined the term "Sales & Operations Planning" in 1984 and wrote the first book on the process in 1987. We evolved the approach into Integrated Business Planning in the late 1990s, and our advisors have each led decades of implementations across industries ranging from consumer goods to pharma to aerospace. We teach our courses the same way we run client engagements — not a simplified summary of a methodology sold to us by someone else.
Options include a multi-day in-person immersion and a virtual series delivered across several sessions. Both cover the same material; the in-person version typically generates more cross-company networking, and the virtual version is easier to fit around operating responsibilities. Choose based on your schedule and learning style.
Yes — you'll receive a formal course completion credential from Oliver Wight. Many alumni add it to their LinkedIn profile. If you're looking for a deeper credentialing path, we also offer company-level certification pathways beyond this course.
We typically see three types of people in our courses: Leaders standing up or rebuilding an S&OP, SIOP or IBP process, people stepping into a new planning or program-lead role and inheriting something that isn't working yet, and executives — Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, or Operations VPs — whose monthly reviews feel more like status reports than decisions. Most cohorts include all three, and the mix is part of what makes the room work.
Both work. Individuals return as internal champions with a clear plan. Teams who come together — typically a planning lead plus one or two functional partners — tend to implement faster because they share the same vocabulary from day one.
The most effective way to attend: bring your leadership team to the course, then spend the day after together planning your implementation or improvements while the material is fresh. We offer discounts for teams of three or more.
While hotel accommodations are not included in the cost of the course, we will be happy to make a reservation on your behalf. During in-person course registration, please indicate your hotel needs.
